How to Paint Bearberry

This free class is now closed, stay tuned for the next one!

In the meantime you can take my free Tiger Lily workshop here.

This is a very special limited time offer that allows you to try one of the full-length classes in The Watercolor Garden for FREE! Make sure you watch the class before the deadline stated at the bottom of this page. If you want lifetime access to this class and ALL my other classes - click here to learn more.

In this class, I’m going to show you how to paint a botanical-style study of the Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) using watercolor and ink.

I’ll show you how to use as few brushstrokes as possible to create a comprhensive study showing the berries, leaves, flowers and dissections. A classic trait of botanical painting is depicting a plant in all its stages—flower, fruit, and sometimes even buds and roots—within a single study to provide the most accurate and comprehensive portrayal for identification.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore combining watercolor and ink for a vibrant, detailed look that takes less time to complete

  • Practice using minimal brushstrokes to avoid overpainting and keep your painting looking luminous, not muddy

  • Gain confidence in simplifying complex subjects using the 3-step painting method

  • Understand how using warm and cool colours can help bring your painting to life

Here’s a free PDF guide with all of the reference materials to help you complete the project. Want even more instruction on using my 3-step painting method? Check out my FREE Tiger Lily Watercolor Workshop here.
