Why I Created the 3-Step Method

I needed a way to overcome my own painting blocks and fear of the unknown.

Even though I had 2 diplomas in botanical painting, I still felt like I was winging it every time I started a new painting.   • What if I don't have the same type of watercolor paints as Laura?

    That's okay! You can start with whatever watercolor paints you already have. I recommend simply choosing a warm and cool version of each primary color, plus a neutral and a pink. Inside the Watercolor Garden, you’ll also find more color resources to help you build your palette. And if you need extra help, you can always ask Laura directly for recommendations based on the paints you have. You do not need to go out and buy a whole bunch of new paint colors.

  • What if I can't start right away?

    You can do the classes anytime and complete them in any order you wish. For the best results, Laura suggests starting with Watercolour Botanicals for Beginners and Botanical Colour 101 first so that you learn the foundational techniques. This will allow you to start the painting projects with confidence and set you up for success! Plus, this option gives you lifetime access. No need to worry about renewal dates or expired access!

  • Can this work for me, I'm a beginner?

    Yes it can! We've got lots of basic info posted and everyone is learning the 3-step method for the first time. You can also ask questions in the private online community anytime.

  • How much time will it take for me to get good at painting?

    This depends on how much you practice you put in, but most students can see results in as little as 30 days, and an even bigger transformation in as little as 90 days.

  • What if I sign up and decide this isn't for me?

About Your Instructor

Botanical Artist | Founder Laura Watson

Laura Watson is a botanical artist based on Vancouver Island, Canada. Her lifelong love of plants began in childhood and continues to inspire her detailed watercolor botanical portraits and teaching practice. She holds a Diploma with Distinction in Botanical Painting from the London Art College and a diploma from the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) in the UK. In 2015, Laura was accepted into the Botanical Artists of Canada (BAC). Her work centers on nature journaling, particularly her ongoing Native Plants Feature Series, which documents the native flora of the Pacific Northwest through intricate watercolor and ink illustrations. Laura has a diploma with distinction from the London Art College in Botanical Painting, as well as a diploma from the U.K. Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) in Botanical Painting. In 2015 she was accepted into the Botanical Artists of Canada (BAC).
